Micro-financing in Cambodia
This is the United Nations
International Year of Micro-credit. VisionFund is the
specialist Micro-finance arm of World Vision. It engages with
and supports the entrepreneurial poor in communities it serves,
using proven models of micro-enterprise development (MED) and
micro-finance. A leading example in Asia is the experience of
VisionFund Cambodia. Rommel Caringal, the founding general
manager of VisionFund Cambodia is visiting New Zealand to help
us promote VisionFund Cambodia, a licensed non-banking
financial institution in Cambodia. Some key themes to be
included in the presentation are:
- Nature of entrepreneurship amongst the
poor in SE Asia - typical first hand
experiences;
- The DNA of an entrepreneur - are they
made or created - a SE Asian case study;
- Challenges of starting up a
Micro-finance Institution in a developing
country;
- Strategic challenges in scaling for
national coverage;
- Sustainability of entrepreneurs,
enterprises, institutions in this setting;
- The use of social capital for security;
its applicability and reliability.
