Does an Asian immigrant ever become a New Zealander?

Dr Ashraf Choudhary was elected to Parliament in the July General Election.

He has a PhD in Agricultural Engineering and has been teaching at Massey University (1976 - 2002). He was President of the NZ Federation of Ethnic Councils from 1998 to 2000 and is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on Immigration.

Ashraf Choudhary has travelled widely in working for national and international agencies such as the NZ Official Development Assistance Programme (now NZAid) and the UN Industrial Development Organisation. He has had assignments in USA, UK, China, Philippines, Iran, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
