Lanterns and Lecterns: Asia 2000 and the NZ Evolution

Christopher Butler has had extensive international experience, especially in Northeast Asia, initially in the Department of Trade and Industry and from 1988 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He was Director Asia for DTI and Director, North Asia Division for MFAT. He has served in China, as Commercial Counsellor, and in South Korea, as Ambassador. He worked on APEC affairs in MFAT 1996-98 then was ambassador to the Netherlands and a number of other European countries until he returned to NZ this year to take up a position as Executive Director of the Asia 2000 Foundation.
