Governance Issues in Post-Soeharto Indonesia
Michael Green joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1970 after graduation from Canterbury University, and has served overseas in Thailand (1972-5), at the NZ Mission to the UN in New York (1978-80), in China (1981-2) and in Indonesia where he was New Zealand's Ambassador from October 1997 until September 2001.
In New Zealand he has served in a number of MFAT Divisions, and has been Director of both South/South-east Asia and North Asia Divisions. For six years, from 1988 to 1994, he was Director of the External Assessments Bureau in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
He took up his current post as Deputy Secretary for Political and Security Affairs at the beginning of October.
